Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It took an extra set and an extra day, but top seed Bradley Klahn moved into the second round by beating Jordan Thompson on Tuesday afternoon at the LG&T Tennis Challenger. The match had been suspended due to darkness on Monday night after the players split the first two sets.
After dropping the first set, Klahn regained the momentum by cruising to take the second set 6-1. He said it was hard to leave the court Monday and have to comeback and finish on Tuesday.
"I found it difficult today to come back out, knowing that it was one set winner take all. I was definitely feeling the nerves a little bit there in the beginning," said Klahn. "I didn't feel like I found the same range and aggressiveness that I had in the second set yesterday, but I competed well and I thought I served well when I needed to."
Klahn moves on to play Sekou Bangoura in the next round.
Meanwhile, the last match of the night provided plenty of drama. Sixth seed Rhyne Williams won a lengthy battle over Robby Ginepri by a count of 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5). The final set, which lasted nearly an hour, went back-and-forth until it was eventually won by Williams who took the match with his 14th ace of the evening. In total, the match lasted over 136 minutes and featured a combined tally of 192 points as the Binghamton crowd was treated to a thrilling three set match.
Second seed Sergiy Stakhovsky had far less trouble. Stakhovsky showed off his soft hands around the net in a 6-1, 6-4 victory over American Evan King. He moves on to play the qualifier Daniel Nguyen.
