Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University has named its next head women's basketball coach. BU announced Thursday afternoon Linda Cimino, from Caldwell College, will take over the program.

Cimino has strong ties to the Northeast. She helped build a winning program at Caldwell College and left the job with 128 victories.

"Linda has proven to be a successful head coach with a relentless work ethic," Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott said. "She's passionate about basketball and about working with student-athletes and I really like her energy. We're excited to welcome her to Binghamton."

Cimino's teams won an average of 18 games over the last five seasons, according to BU

"I'm very excited and honored to become the new head coach at Binghamton, the best public university in the Northeast," Cimino said. "I look forward to building our program into a contender in the America East Conference. I also can't wait to get out in the community, meet Binghamton's strong and passionate fan base and share my enthusiasm and vision for our future."

Off the court, Cimino earned her bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 2001 and a master's degree in health education in 2004 from Adelphi.

She was an NCAA Division II scholarship player at Adelphi.

She also earned a master's degree in administration from Touro College in 2006.

At Caldwell, she served as the associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator for eight years.

She has served on the NCAA Women's Basketball East Region Regional Advisory Committee, NCAA Division II USA Today Coaches Poll Committee, NCAA's Women and Minorities Mentor Program, and WBCA National Coach of the Year Award Committee.

The school will officially introduce Cimino at a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday.
