M-E girls stomp Wallkill, move to state quarterfinals

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG BINGHAMTON) Victoria Dean tossed in 16 points to lead the Maine-Endwell girls basketball team to a runaway victory over Wallkill in the first round of the NYSPHSAA Class A playoffs.

The Spartans gave up just seven points after haltime to cruise to a 47-26 victory.

"This time of the season, everybody's got some dings and bruises, a little rust around the tires," said head coach Sonny Spera. "[It's about] who can kind of rise up and make the plays, so I was proud of our kids tonight."

"Our defense is key definitely in games like this," said Dean. "We knew Wallkill, they put up usually 60 points a game so we knew we had to limit them to their drives, and their shots outside, and keep them down below the [30-point] range."

Maine-Endwell advances to play Section I winner Peekskill on Saturday, March 8 at New Rochelle High School.
