Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York Jets have said they want to get back to the ground and pound mentality.
Ground and pound is a mentality of another sport...MMA.
And that's how one of the running backs got ready for the season.
Joe McKnight spent part of the off season doing MMA training.
He says he didn't get in the cage and fight anyone.
It was more doing bag slams, hitting the heavy bag and things like that.
He hopes that training will help him on offense, especially picking up the blitz.
"Yeah, more hand to hand. Me coming out of the backfield, probably getting the cornerback on the press and just work on my hands and my movement. It was more intense but I needed it. I just needed to do that to make myself better," says McKnight.
We told McKnight that's he's training in light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones territory.
He told us that he's not a Bones fan, but an Anderson Silva fan.
