Apalachin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Dozens of amateurs teamed up with celebrities from the sports world to support a good cause.

The Links at Hiawatha Landing was the site of the 12th annual Jim "Mudcat" Grant All-Star golf tournament.

The list of celebrity golfers included our own Travis Eldridge, Binghamton University men's basketball coach Tommy Dempsy as well as members of the Black Aces...a group of African American pitchers to win at least 20 games in a season.

One of those aces, Vida Blue, says he plays in the event to give back to the man that helped him so much during his career.

"I knew him when I was a 21 year old punk. I have to emphasize punk, wet behind the ears. He taught me more than the game of baseball, the game of life. As I said, how to be professional and about giving back to the communities and you feel compelled to do that. As the saying goes, pass it forward so I had a lot of people help me along the way and Jim was very instrumental in my life, my career," says Blue.

All proceeds of the event benefit several local charities.
