Nearly 100 Teams In John Mack Southern Tier Shootout
Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Nearly 100 boys and girls lacrosse teams battled it out in support of a good cause. The Greater Binghamton Sports Complex hosted the 7th annual John Mack Southern Tier Lacrosse shootout. Players from third and fourth grade all the up to guys in their 50s and 60s strapped on the helmets to participate in this year's tournament. The tournament helps raise money to by defibrillators to donate to local sports clubs and non-profit organizations. All in honor of John Mack, a local lacrosse player who died while playing the game he loved. "A lot of the younger kids coming into this tournament don't even know who John Mack was. And I try to give them a message in the program and tell them why we're here. We try to keep it forefront that Johnny was a great athlete, a beautiful kid and he died possibly unnecessarily because the equipment wasn't there to save his life," says tournament director Robert Mack. In it's 7 years, the tournament has donated nearly 50 AED machines, including 2 during play Sunday afternoon.
