Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A new era has begun for Union-Endicott as Tom Baleno replaces Shane Hurd as the Tigers head football coach, but it doesn't change the expectations.

Baleno, who was the defensive coordinator for the Tigers under Hurd, inherits plenty of talent from a state semifinal team last season.

The Tigers return quarterback Joey Orlando, wide receiver Nick Yesensky and running back Sammy Davis Jr. from last year's team that lost to Sweet Home in the state semis.

Baleno may be new to the position, but he isn't new to the school, so he knows exactly what the expectations are for this team.

"U-E football is a machine that just runs on tradition, we represent not just ourselves and our family, but the community," said Baleno. "We've been around since 1903, we have that on the back of our shirts and that's something that we're really stressing this year."

Baleno takes over for Hurd, who left U-E to take a coaching job with the Cornell football program.

The Tigers open up the season in the Carrier Dome against Syracuse's Christian Brothers Academy on Friday, September 6.
