Penguins stop B-Sens, lead series 2-0
Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After allowing the Pens to draw first blood, the B-Sens quickly tied the game at 1-1 before eventually falling to the Pens 3-2 in regulation. The Penguins scored first for the second night in a row, as Riley Holzapfel knocked home a power play goal courtesy of Paul Thompson and Brian Gibbons at 2:48 in the first period. At the 14:35 mark, Matt Puempel would tie the game at one apiece off of assists by Mark Stone and Chris Wideman. Chris Collins blasted one past B-Sens goalie Nathan Lawson at 12:03 of the second period to give the Pens a 2-1 lead. Assisting on the goal was Dylan Reese and Brian Dumoulin. At 19:58 in the second period, Warren Peters jabbed in the eventual game winning goal following assists from Zach Sill and Jayson Megna to give the Pens a two-goal lead, 3-1. After pulling Lawson for an extra attacker, Wideman pulled the B-Sens within one after knocking home a power play goal with 19 seconds left in the third period following a pass from Stephane Da Costa. The B-Sens couldn’t muster the equalizer in the final moments. Lawson started in net for Binghamton, saving 21 of the 24 shots he faced. Jeff Zatkoff was between the pipes for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, stopping 35 of 37 shots. The B-Sens visit the Penguins for Game 3 on Thursday, May 2. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
