(WBNG Binghamton) Soccer, volleyball and field hockey all continue their state tournaments as well in the regional rumble weekend, but one are team jumps right to the state finals.

Gabe Osterhout tracks down the Maine-Endwell boys cross country team as they try to run down a title Saturday.

It's sometimes difficult to live up to expectations.

But the Maine-Endwell boys cross country team is doing just that.

Last year's team was the best ever in school history.

But this year's team knew they could be even better.

It started in the preseason with a number one ranking.

And beat just about everyone who crossed their path.

"We had a goal to win as many invitationals as possible and we won all but one of them and win the STAC meet, which we did for the first time since 1988 and then we wanted 8 guys in the top 10 today and the top 6 which is exactly what they did," says head coach Mike Cordi.

Maine-Endwell won the sectional title easily.

And they are sending 7 runners to the state meet.

As for what's made the team so successful?

The runners say it was developing a family atmosphere from the top runner all the way down to the last.

"We're all friends on the team. These are all my best friends. They're my brothers through everything. We're all friends. We fight sometimes, we joke around but at the end of the day, we're all fighting for the same thing," says Nick Miller.

And that same thing is to be the best team in the state.

But this team isn't done with their season just yet.

"We haven't satisfied our thirst yet. We want to get to Feds really bad so we'll see what we can do," says Ryan Brizzolara.

The next step in the road toward that goal is winning a state title.

Even if they fall a little bit short, this year's cross country team definitely lived up to their own expectations.
