Cortland, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Cortland men's lacrosse team is looking for it's first National championship since 2009.
The Red Dragons will take on powerhouse Salisbury for the title.
A Seton Catholic graduate has been one of the leaders of this year's team.
Action Sports reporter Gabe Osterhout has more in this week's Sports Spotlight.
He may only be a sophomore, but Seton Catholic Central graduate Joe Slavik is fitting in nicely.
Slavik is 4th on the team in points, netting 32 goals and adding 15 assists in 21 games played.
"It's all about the team...it's nothing about individual stats...just come hard, work every day, and things are falling for me and I'm just going to keep working hard," says Slavik.
"He's an absolutely unbelievable player, an unbelievable talent. He's a hard worker and he's invaluable to our team. He's the best dodger on our team, easily one of the fastest players in the nation. He's just a hard worker and a great player and we're really fortunate to have him on the field and I just can't really say enough positive things about Joe," says senior Mike Tota.
In the NCAA tournament, Slavik has stepped it up a notch.
He's netted 5 goals, including the game tying tally this past weekend in a come from behind win against Tufts.
"It was a broken play and I just found a spot in the middle in a gap and I think Cody passed me it and I was just able to burry it low and score the goal..it was a good goal," says Slavik.
There are 8 seniors on this year's Red Dragons team, but if you ask them, they'll tell you Slavik is definitely one of the leaders.
"Slav is mature beyond his years as far as how he carries himself on and off the field. He exudes a great confidence. He exudes a great personality and has been a great leaders for the younger guys, even though he's one of the younger guys," says head coach Steve Beville.
Now, Slavik and his teammates have a chance to make history, and make a childhood dream come true by winning the NCAA Championship on Sunday.
