Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some of the best high school basketball players in the state are set to come to Johnson City this weekend. They are all doing so to take part in the BCANY summer hoops festival.

The event replaced the Empire State Games when they were canceled a few years ago. On Wednesday we caught up with the Southern Tier boy's team.

Two years ago the Southern Tier made a run all the way to the finals, while last year the team struggled a little bit. This time around, they're looking to get back to competing with the best in the state.

"It has been a fun group to be around and we are planning on doing our best to carry the banner for Section IV in competing against what should be some pretty talented kids and teams this weekend," said head coach Bill Ocker.

"There's a lot of good competition, a lot of big, strong athletic kids," said Maine-Endwell's Jake Sinicki. "You don't see a ton of the kids that you'll see at the tournament here, so it's different. Different basketball."

The tournament starts on Friday and runs through Sunday with games being played at Johnson City high school, middle school and elementary school.
