Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Senators got a come from behind win in their season opener. And part of the reason was the play of the special teams.
The Senators, who led the league in short handed goals last season, picked up right where they left off.
Derek Grant scored his first short handed goal of the year to get the B-Sens on the board.
Mika Zibanejad then scored a power play goal in the third period to tie the game game, before Cody Ceci ended it with a pretty goal in overtime.
"To give us that life in the game when we needed some offensive punch. We didn't expect it to come on the penalty kill but we'll take it. I guess we've come used to getting that from him but we really want to make sure we limit penalties that give us those opportunities but when they're there, our guys know that if they can turn pucks over and they're fresh, they're free to go on offense," says head coach Luke Richardson.
The B-Sens hit the road for games Friday night and Saturday in Norfolk.
Friday night's game starts at 7:30.
