Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton)  This weekend 70 golfers will vie for the title of the best player in the Triple Cities. Out of all the events the Triple Cities Golf Association plays each year, this weekend is the premier one, the TCGA Amateur.

The winner earns an exemption into the New York State Amateur championship a week later. TCGA President Thomas Hackett said this tournament always draws the strongest field of the year, which makes winning it that much sweeter.

"I've got one title and it's my most proud accomplishment in golf, even having played in some more national events," said Hackett. "It's by far the most fun because it's covered locally and it is something that everybody knows how hard these golf courses are that we're playing."

The tournament is played Friday through Sunday at three different courses. Registration is open until midnight Wednesday night.
