She might make it look just that easy, but Vestal senior Heather Warfle admits she's not the world's greatest bowler.
"The hardest part is probably getting it on the mark that you want and I've gotten better by just keeping my mark and just trying to hit that each time," Heather says.
Even though Heather's not the team's best bowler, she might be responsible for the Bears even fielding a full lineup this season.
"I got her to come and bowl and a couple of her girlfriends and actually she brought five or six other girls which was real good and so they're my varsity this year," Golden Bears Head Coach Mike Demetros says.
Not only is Heather a three-sport athlete, she also is near the top of her senior class with a 95 average. She says her specialties are math and science. In class, she's used to being the one to help her friends. On the lanes, sometimes she's the one that needs a few pointers. But in either setting, having the right mental approach is key.
"I just calm down and think of what I have to get and then I go up there and then right before I go I just take a deep breath and I just go and try to hit my mark," says Heather.
"She works at it. She listens. She's coachable. She gets frustrated but doesn't quit. She wants to do better all the time and that's a good thing," Coach Demetros says.
Being laid back and taking every challenge in stride has been the recipe for success for Heather, and it's what makes her this week's Academic All Star. In Vestal, Justin Horowitz, Action Sports.
