He's spent five years on the team and swam more than 1.5 million yards over 117 practices this year. And O.F.A. Senior Josh Malia says it all paid off when he competed in four events at the State Meet earlier this month.
Like any top-class swimmer, Josh made the O.F.A pool his home away from home during the season. That meant early mornings and late nights all with the singular goal to shave precious seconds off his times.
With all the time spent in the pool, Josh somehow managed to complete his best semester ever with a 96 average. Ever since last year, he's had the very lofty goal of earning admission to one of the service academies. That dream became a reality when Josh was accepted to the Air Force Academy.
Josh is still waiting to hear from the Naval Academy and surprisingly says he wants to be a pilot not a seal. He's reached all his goals so far and there's no doubt Josh Malia will keep soaring to new heights in the future. That's why he's this week's Academic All Star.
