Union-Endicott senior Amy Chianucci is a standout on the softball field.
But more than anything else, she's a leader for the Tigers.
That's all she's ever wanted to be.
" I have a good relationship with everyone on the team but I feel like I'm someone they can look up to. Ever since I started varsity when I was in 10th grade I always strove to be a captain when I was a senior because I always looked up to the captains. "
Coach Jim Testa says, " Amy is the type of captain that will be a lot more by example. She's not really a rah rah let's go get them kind of person. She'll lead by example and it doesn't take much from her. Where some people say a lot just a few words out of Amy they realize that Amy said something something must be wrong. "
She takes that same team mentality in the classroom, where she takes 6 advanced level classes and still keeps up a 95 average.
But it's also work on things like the robotics team that keep her motivated.
" It's very similar to sports. You have to be able to work well as a team. It's exactly the same concept as a team just more of the mind sport than a physical sport."
And she chose to take on that difficult course load, but to her, there really was no choice.
" I think if I didn't take all these classes I would be bored and I know I wouldn't be working up to my potential. I just try my best and I like what I'm doing."
Amy is also the only one that takes her homework on the bus for overnight softball trips.
Just part of the reason why she's this week's academic all star.
