"She's awesome. I love being around her. She's always so happy and she's just a great person to work with."
"I couldn't have a better senior year with her and she's definitely quite the gal."
And together, MacKenzie McNamara and Susan Kaczmarczyk make up the dynamic duo that captains the U-E swim team.
Both are four-year varsity members who have happily spent countless hours training in the pool.
MacKenzie says, "I love swimming. It's my release of stress and my favorite place in the whole world."
Susan says, "I just love the excitement of swimming, being in the water and the adrenaline you get from the races."
Outside of the pool, both girls have created their own unique experiences.
MacKenzie is a community-service junkie, participating in Relay for Life and the Breast Cancer Walk.
Her crowning achievement came earlier this season when she organized a 10-hour swim-a-thon to benefit CHOW and the Boys and Girls Club.
"It kind of kept getting bigger and bigger and over 100 people came and we had 2200 pounds of food and over 1000 dollars and it was really fun."
Susan traveled halfway around the world for fun.
Last spring, she spent three weeks as an exchange student in Italy.
"It was scary at first but I always love trying new things and it was just really interesting to see the way they lived and nice to know that they're not much different from we are."
Her Italian counterparts will visit Endicott this week.
They might be wise to follow around Susan Kaczmarczyk and MacKenzie McNamara... Two students who represent all that is good in high school athletics.
With this week's Academic All Star, I'm Justin Horowitz.
