Yuliya Pecheny's school day just flies by.
" I take a lot of college courses to get a step up in that. I'm taking a couple of AP courses as well."
But when she steps foot on the soccer field on game day, speed really becomes a factor.
Coach Sunnie Williams says, " When we're up against a team, and Ya is definitely the fastest on our team, we put her on the fastest player for somebody else. "
Besides her defensive duties in the midfield, Yuliya, or just Ya, is a senior leader and the glue to the Blue Devils undefeated season.
" My goal in that is to keep the team together, and not let them fall apart. Individuality matters, but it's not as important as winning the whole game."
" She's a captain for us this year and she's done a great job being a leader on the field and off the field as well, keeping the team together and keeping the spirits up and just helping us function as a team on and off the field. "
With a day that can easily slip away the hardest part of her schedule outside of school is finding a way to get everything done.
" It's kind of hard as a teenager to have that adult mentality where I have to do this, this and this. So it's a little difficult but once you get the hang of it it's a little easier."
And getting it done in the class and on the field is why Yuliya Pecheny is this week's academic all star.
