There may be three sport seasons on the calendar, but there's only one for Rachel Jones.
While she plays other sports, her one true love is softball.
Rachel says, " That's basically my whole life. I play it 24-7 year round, I play it every day of the week. "
It's the same way in her classes.
While she keeps up an "A" average in all her classes, there is one favorite.
" Mainly it's science and math. I'm not that good in English but math is my strong point. I take almost all honors classes. It's really tough work, and I'm up tp about 11:00 every night trying to do all of it. I like math because you know there's always going to be a right answer and it will work out eventually."
That's what her favorites have in common.
Just like a math problem, there is a clear cut right answer in a hitter-pitcher confrontation.
Coach Jim Testa says, " She's like that. Everything's pretty set in terms of skills when you tell her something she's the one that gets it first, whether it's an unusual thing or a fairly routine one. She gets it because she's smart and really motivated and that's a huge thing. "
Rachel is working towards a college scholarship for softball, and someday a degree in sports medicine.
For now though, it's practice and homework, always looking for the right answer.
That's what makes Rachel Jones this week's academic all star.
