His school day is packed from start to finish with Advanced placement classes designed to give him a head start towards a biology degree.
But it's when the final bell rings that Mike Allen's day gets really busy.
Baseball for a couple of hours, and then it gets late. Then it's to the golf course for sectional qualifying and then study."
One week got particularly busy with both sports having big games on one day, with an AP exam.
But Mike never let one interfere with the other.
" Mike was always focused and in the game. He's always the kid that could keep that positive attitude when we needed to and keep things light when we needed to in some of the more stressful situations."
Yes instead of stressing out, Mike finds ways to keep loose during the grind of practice and games.
And on a senior-heavy roster of guys he's played with since Little League, that has become as much his job as scooping out errant throws at first base.
" Sing a few songs, put a dance on or two. "
He says he's been at first base ever since he figured out he was left handed. He could always be remembered as the guy that sings kareoke on the news...
" I don't want to do any singing. Not today. "
Instead he'll be remembered for his work ethic in the class and on the field, making Mike Allen this week's academic all star.
At Chenango Forks high school, Brendan O'Reilly action sports.
