Tioga Center, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - You might know her as that tall girl who plays for Tioga.
Or you might know her as the girl that scores 23 points a game.
Maybe, you just know Kara McDuffee as the girl with the headband.
"I don't know, just when I was young I always wore a headband so I just kept it going," says Kara.
Kara prefers to let her play do the loudest talking.
The junior is on pace to break the school's all-time scoring record by the end of the season.
But for Kara, basketball is the ultimate team game.
"I've been playing basketball since I was little in elementary and I love it because in basketball, everybody is always involved and every possession all the five people are going to be doing something," says Kara.
"She makes everyone around her better," says Kara's head coach, Joe Robinson. "She draws a lot of double teams, box and one, triangle and two, and the twos on her. So she's just starting to find out if she includes the rest of her team how could we're going to be."
Who knows how good Kara could be?
She's ranked number one in her junior class with a grade point average over 100.
And it's not like she has a lot of time to study.
But she does devote some of that precious commodity to help coach Tioga's sixth-grade girls team.
"I just try to lead by example," says Kara. "I try to help them out whenever I can. It's definitely great to see them improve and get better."
Kara wants to play basketball in college and major in English with hopes of becoming a teacher.
Which helps explain her other passion...
"I love to write," says Kara. "I write a bunch of stories and novels in the summer."
Perhaps her next piece could be the story of Tioga's state championship team led by Kara McDuffee.
She's this week's Academic All Star.
