"My first sister went to States, then my second sister went to States, so it pushed me to go to States."
SO IT'S SAFE TO SAY SWIMMING IS IN THE KEESLER FAMILY BLOOD. OLDER SISTERS SARAH AND LIZ SET THE BAR HIGH AT UNION-ENDICOTT AND NOW BABY SISTER MISSY IS CONTINUING THE TRADITION. THE SENIOR IS A TWO-TIME STATE QUALIFIER AND TWO-TIME EMPIRE STATE GAMES PARTICIPANT. HER SUCCESS IS IN NO SMALL PART THANKS TO HER SISTERS.
"Both of my sisters worked incredibly hard so I couldn't just let them down. I had to keep it up too."
"The first one was a little older than the middle one so they weren't on the team together but the last two were on the team for a few years so I wish I could've had all three of them at the same time."
SUCCESS IN SWIMMING REQUIRES A LEVEL OF DEDICATION NOT ALWAYS SEEN IN OTHER SPORTS. THAT INCLUDES PRE-DAWN AND LATE-NIGHT TRAINING SESSIONS. BUT MISSY SAYS SHE GREW UP IDOLIZING HER OLDER SISTERS, SO SACRIFICING THE USUAL TEENAGE SOCIAL SCENE FOR THE POOL IS THE ONLY THING SHE KNOWS.
"During the summer I was doing weightlifting in the morning starting at 6, then I would go home. And I'd go to work where I lifeguard and then I'd go to swim practice again and that was my entire summer so while most kids were out doing social stuff, I was at practice and I was working out."
MISSY HAS HER EYES SET ON U-E'S BACKSTROKE RECORD AND A THIRD TRIP TO STATES. SHE EXCELS IN THE POOL ALL WHILE MAINTAINING A 92 AVERAGE WITH AN EYE TOWARDS A CAREER IN PHYSICAL THERAPY. AND EVEN THOUGH THE THREE SISTERS ALL SWIM DIFFERENT EVENTS, EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW, WHO WINS THE KEESLER FAMILY RACE?
"I don't know, we're all about the same. I don't want to create bad stuff in my family."
