At first glance, her chosen sport doesn't seem like a group activity.
But running until your lungs burn and your muscles ache isn't about you, it's about the team.
" It's cool to be able to be independent," says Danielle Brenon. "And it's every man for themselves out there. But in another sense, you're with your team and you're working together to score points that way. "
Danielle has been part of the cross country team since 7th grade. But this season she's not just a runner, she's a leader.
" We don't pick captains, we kind of let the captains evolve," says head coach Mike Cordi. "I know one of the freshman said to me the other day, "I look up to Danielle Brenon." It's because she treats them as equals really, and brings them along. I think she remembers when she was a freshman and she had seniors bringing her along, and now she's in that role. "
Danielle maintains a 97 average with a course load filled with top-level classes.
And besides running, she's a part of another team. A select chorus and high school quartet.
" It's not about singing and being the loudest voice there, it's about singing in the choir and creating a master voice of a blend of voices"
When asked for a little example of her skill..." no not really"...Danielle Brenon proves it once and for all. It's not about the solo, it's about the team.
Now she joins another select group.
Danielle Brenon is this week's academic all star.
