A Johnson City high school senior is the captain of two teams.
And is at the head of his class.
But if you ask him, it's not about competition.
Action Sports reporter Gabe Osterhout introduces us to this week's Mirabito Academic All-Star Brandon DeLarmarter.

Johnson City senior Brandon DeLamarter is the number one player on the boys varsity tennis team.
He's also the captain.
But he's not concerned about his record on the courts.
Or beating other players.

"During competition, there's more pressure. You don't really know who you're actually playing and I like, during practice, its more subtle and you can just joke around with your teammates that you're playing...its just easier for me at least."

Off the court, DeLamarter is also a leader.
He's the class of 2011 Valedictorian, president of French Club and treasurer of National Honor Society.
Next year, he'll turn in his racket and sneakers to concentrate on his studies at Georgetown University, where he'll major in international studies.

"I was always interested in French, which I took in 8th grade all the way up to my senior year and European history...I was always interested in Europe and then of course the relations between the US and Europe was always very interesting to me."

While his tennis and cross country careers will soon be over, he doesn't think he'll miss it.
But his coach will miss him.
Head varsity tennis coach Jim DiMaria says DeLamarter stands out among the best students and athletes he's seen in his 14 year career.

"His leadership qualitites, him as a person. He's always had a sense of maturity about him. In a way, its almost like an assistant coach for me. I don't have an assistant on the courts... He's honest."

DeLamarter says he can't wait for this year to be over so he's able to relax and enjoy the summer, before heading to college, where he hopes to star in the classroom and be at the head of his class again.
And that's why Brandon DeLamarter is this week's Mirabito Academic All-Star.
