Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Two Union-Endicott softball players are team leaders and best of friends.
And both excel in the classroom.
They are so much alike, their coach has taken to calling them by one name.
Gabe Osterhout introduces us to this week's Academic All-Stars...Emily Mouillesseaux and Mandy Seccia.
Union-Endicott seniors Emily Mouillesseaux and Mandy Seccia have been teammates on the softball team for the last 3 seasons.
Both are co-captains and are counted on to lead the team by example.
As a matter of fact, they're so much alike...they're coach has started calling them by one name...Mandemily.
Coach Jim Testa says, "When I think of these two I kind of just think of them together. They came up to the team together as sophomores and they're always together when we're doing things."
Both girls are members of the national honor society and are taking 4 ap courses this year.
And both have a 93 average.
Emily says, "We definitely push each other and help each other out a lot both in school and out of school on the field."
Mandy says, "Emily has been my sister for as long as I can remember...my best friend. We grew up together, we both rely on each other for so many things. She deserves it so much, the academic all-star, she works so hard in school and athletics."
On the field, the two hope to lead their team to another sectional championship.
Last year, they teamed up for the final out in the sectional final.
But this year will be the last time the two play together.
Mouillesseaux plans on studying pre-med at a SUNY school.
Seccia wants to go to Wilkes University to study neuroscience psychology and clinical psychology.
But before they get to college, the duo has just one thing on their mind...repeating as sectional champs.
And that's why Emily Mouillesseaux and Mandy Seccia are this week's Academic All-Stars.
