Windsor, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

Some athletes famously keep a list of goals by their bed.
Windsor senior Kelly Costello never wrote them out, but if she did, there would be a lot of check marks on the paper.

A 3 sport standout, 2-time state champion and already signed up for division 1 softball she can now cross off the big item on her list, she's our academic all star.

In her first at bat of this season, Kelly Costello got a hit.
She wanted more.

" My second at-bat, we were in the dugout and the girls were joking around with me saying 'oh Kelly if you get a homerun will make a bet.' So I had a bet going with one of the other girls on the team who had 2 home runs, like I did. So I was just focused and the ball was outside and I just tried to wait long enough that I get the fat part on the bat and take it to right field."

This is her 5th season on the varsity team, and her 12th varsity letter overall. So at this point she has a good understanding of what works, and what doesn't. And usually before a coach can tell her what she's doing wrong, she already knows.

" When I'm in a slump in practice or anything when I'm swinging and I hit a weak ball I can tell now what I did wrong. I can fix my own issues. "

Part of that comes from her academic work. Kelly carries a 97 average, and will graduate in the top 10 in her class with 5 college courses.
Her favorite subject is math.

" Calculus is hard, but I really like it. It makes sense to me. So it's a very enjoyable class. With math it's all formulas as a way to do it and you can always go back and find out where your mistake is."

It's tough to find any mistakes in her work so far.
Of all the things she's done, she says her favorite is a summer camp helping out younger players. Of course winning a 3rd state title this year would be pretty good too.
A standout on the diamond and in the class, Kelly Costello is this week's academic all star.
