Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

" It's pretty much all just inside jokes. We all have certain handshakes for certain people."

There is fun to be had in warmups.

But once the whistle blows on the start of the game, that's when the business of winning begins.
And Liz Howell's teammates don't seem to have any other option but to get in line behind her.

Coach Matt Wood says, " She is kind of self motivated, and she does whatever she needs to do. She's a natural leader. Not always in voice, just in what she does and the way she acts. They naturally follow her. "

She's been on the team for 3 years and a captain now for 2.
And Liz has learned that being a leader means helping her younger teammates.

" We have to make sure they have a positive attitude and help them with what they're struggling with. But so far, everybody is holding their own job and doing really well."

She keeps up a 96 average and spends half her day working in the medical field in the new visions program. Liz jokes she has a good reason to be interested in being a physical therapist

" Yes, I've been to PT a lot. I've broken my legs and sprained ankles and knee problems."

She's serious about her work, and her favorite sport, but still has some fun.
After all what's more fun than winning.

Liz Howell is a winner on and off the field, it's why she's this week's academic all star.
