This week's Mirabito Academic All-Star puts school work first.
She admits that her playing career is almost over but is making the most of the time she has left with her Blue Devils team.
Action Sports reporter Gabe Osterhout introduces us to Chenango Forks senior Mackenzie Faughnan.

"You just have to know obviously school comes first. Sports and other things come after."
Chenango Forks Senior guard Mackenzie Faughnan is an honor roll student and will be heading to the University of Albany in the fall, where she'll major in social work.

She's already getting a head start through her favorite subject...French.

"This year's my second year of doing it as a college class through Albany. It's fun, its different, it's a change of pace and its learning stuff about things I really have no idea about."

Faughnan started playing basketball in elementary school.
She says her playing career will end when the season at Chenango Forks is over.
One of the captains of this year's team, she describes herself as a team leader.
Not the high scorer or top rebounder.

And it'll be the family like atmosphere, not the competition, she misses the most.

"I like the teamwork and I like showing how you can work with others and its not a one man show. It's all 5 players on the court and the bench working together for the win."
Coaches say she'll definitely be missed.

Nick Fersch says, "She brings a toughness to the team. She may not score 30, 20-30 points per game but what she's going to do is set the table for the team. She works hard in practice, she gets on teammates and makes sure they're playing hard, they come to work."

Faughnan will do whatever's necessary to make sure her team's successful.
Even if that means making the extra pass, or guarding the other teams best player.

The same mindset that's made her successful in the classroom as well.
And that's why Mackenzie Faughnan is this week's Mirabito Academic All-Star.
