She far from average, but her averages are important to Union-Endicott senior Vicki Peters.
Whether it's her grade point average, or her team leading bowling average, the numbers tell a lot about the Tigers standout.
But not all of it.For the rest of the story here's this week's Mirabito academic all star.
" Everybody wants to be the best. Everybody wants to be good. Everybody wants to be the best at what they do. At the same time I went to states as an individual last year, and was lucky enough to go with a teammate. It wasn't the same as having the team behind you."
Vicki Peters has had to get used to the label of #1.
She holds the top average on her undefeated Tigers team.
But being a captain and a leader is nothing new for the Union-Endicott senior.
" For me, I've always had someone there if I need it, that I know I can go to for help, whether it's on the lanes or off. Now having this type of role, being the captain of the varsity, just being an older girl for them to look up to, for them to know I can be there for them if they need anything."
When she's not working on her average on the lanes, Vicki is trying to improve that more important number, her grade point average.
She hits the books to keep up a 3.2 GPA, and has plans to major in exercise science in college.
And her work studying also pays off on the lanes as well.
Coach Barb Ziska says, " She's not afraid to go out there if she needs to make a change. She reads the lane conditions beautifully, and if she needs to change balls to get one that goes in there harder, she's really good about it."
Vicki says her grandfather taught her how to bowl, and she strives to do better in his memory. She entering the toughest part of her season, but this senior leader has the experience, skill and smarts to get through keeping both of her averages up high.
That's why Vicki Peters is this week's academic all star.
