Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Originally Anna Kuchera's soccer coach told her she should start running track, and ever since she has carved her way into Vestal's record books. Fitting for the major she hopes to pursue once she leaves Vestal high school.
"Really in high school, art has developed for me, and I really love to do it," said Kuchera, a senior at Vestal High School. "So now I thought architecture was something great to go into that combines both of my interests."
A challenging major that doesn't phase Kuchera one bit. And it's the type of challenges her coach and former teacher say only make her stronger.
"Just the discipline to be here everyday, to be working out, and the leadership," said Jim Cerra, Kuchera's coach and former teacher. "She shows that leadership on the soccer field, she shows the leadership here, so that's really what has been the biggest part of her athletic and academic career."
Her success on the track is evident by her multiple school records and several trips to both the indoor and outdoor State Track Meets, but her success in the classroom is just as impressive.
Kuchera ranks third in her class, with an average of more than 102.
Success that can be attributed to her work ethic...
"On the track I really just love to compete. I love racing," said Kuchera. "Working hard every day at practice really fulfills me. In the classroom, I've always strived to get the best grades possible, I'm always looking to the future."
A future she's building upon on each step she takes, on and off the track. Once again fitting, as she hopes to one day become an architect.
