Norwich Senior Kyle Edwards prefers the face to face approach. He's a Peer Mediator, a member of the Big Brother/Big Sister Program and student government president. He carries a nearly 98 average in school. Edwards wants to continue to help people by majoring in physical therapy in college.

"I have done it a few times through injuries in sports over the years," said Edwards. "I like the interaction you get with people you're working with and able to help them along through injuries and tough times I think is very important."

Edwards had dealt with injuries being a two sport athlete. This winter, he's trying to help the Purple Tornado varsity basketball team earn a second straight trip to the state playoffs. Coaches said he's the teams biggest threat, both offensively and defensively. Edwards feels his style fits in well with the team philosophy.

"I do like to shoot the 3 point basket quite a bit but I've learned not to rely so much on that and be able to get to the basket. I like to play up and down, fast paced and that's kind of what Norwich does, play fast paced offense so my game fits perfect with that."

"Kyle's a great role model for all the kids in our program, from JV to modified to the travel team, 12 and under kids," said coach Brian Collier. "We actually have some managers on our team, they just want to be like him. They get the same haircut as him, they shoot the same way, they wear the same wristbands, arm sleeves, everything he has."

A straight A student, an all-star and a role model, that's why Kyle Edwards is this week's Academic All-Star.
