Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) While Jones is a former standout for Union-Endicott, this week's Academic All-Star stands tall for the Tigers.
Not only is she a high honor roll student, she's also a dominant force for the Tigers softball team.
This week's Academic all-star is pitcher Alexis Eastman.
Union-Endicott Sophomore Alexis Eastman started her softball career in t-ball and worked her way through Endicott Youth Baseball with her twin brother.
Now she's worked her way up to the U-E varsity softball team, where she's not only one of the two starting pitchers, but also a team leader.
"To be a team leader is definitely something I've always strived to be and it's great to be looked up to," says Eastman.
Eastman is looked to by her teammates to shut down the opposing offenses.
And she feels she can do the job.
"You have to have your own confidence and stuff because if you don't then a lot of times you'll be your biggest enemy," she says.
Eastman is in her first full season on the varsity team, though she spent some time there during her 8th and 9th grade years.
That experience has helped her gain confidence.
"They were very welcoming so it's easier. The team was very nice and very accepting and I mean at times, I had my struggles and everything but it always worked out," she says.
"She's not just a pitcher..she's a good fielder. She's a good hitter so she'll be in our line-up at times, also when she's not pitching and she's a good first baseman," says coach Jim Testa.
Eastman is also good in the classroom.
She carries a 96.5 average and says her favorite subject is trig because math is definite and always has an answer.
Eastman hopes to pursue a career in business.
But for now, her business is on the mound, helping the Tigers to a 3rd consecutive sectional title.
And that's why Alexis Eastman is this week's Academic All-Star.
