A Chenango Forks senior cross country runner accomplished something that had not been done in over 30 years at the school.
And she excels in the classroom, with a GPA over 100.
We present Sarah Krizan as this week's Mirabito Academic All-Star.
"I'm not very coordinated so it wasn't going to be soccer or anything like that, " says Chenango Forks Senior Sarah Krizan.
Instead, her sport of choice is cross country.
"I just like to run so I went out in modified and I loved it. I came to varsity and started doing really well. It's been a great 4 years. This year was really great," says Krizan.
Coaches say she may be the best female cross-country runner ever at the school.
She's made the state championships 3 out of 4 years while on varsity.
This year, she made the awards stand there.
The first Blue Devil to do so since 1973.
And her coach believes she's only scratched the surface of her potential.
"She does everything right. She trains right. She sleeps well. She's organized. She does her strength work. She does her long runs. She does her speed work. She does everything she has to do to get better and she does it consistently well," Coach Larry Brooks says.
She's also an all-star in the classroom, carrying a 102 GPA.
And while she isn't sure where she'll go to college, she wants to major in pharmacy.
"I think there's a lot of issues in the health field. There's a lot of mistakes that shouldn't be made and a lot of it comes down in pharmaceuticals and the best way to fix the system is to be in it. I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking of maybe going on for another few years and getting my PHD and doing pharmaceutical research in oncology drugs," she says.
For a self-proclaimed perfectionist, you wouldn't expect anything different.
And that's why Sarah Krizan is this week's Mirabito Academic All-Star.
