Academic All Star - Matt Cornwell

Tools

By Brendan O'Reilly

Matt Cornwell's favorite subject is math, but he also loves poetry and someday wants to study psychiatry. He maintains a 92 average and get this, has a good time doing it.
" I've never really had a problem keeping up my grades because I've never lost interest in school. He talked to those people that say all I hate school and stuff like that. I've never had a problem with it, I've always enjoyed it, you come in and see your friends."
If he seems like one in 1 million you're partly right. There were over 1 million people packed into the national Mall in Washington DC to witness Pres. Barack Obama is swearing in and Matt Cornwell was one of them.
" That was the craziest part there were people everywhere when you're in a crowd of people you think I can get up if I have to go to the bathroom. There was no moving at all we were there for four hours and we were stuck. Once you get in there you were definitely stuck."
Really, the hardest part about going was missing a basketball game.
Matt says, " Yet I know it's hard. That's like not coming home at night. I love playing basketball. But I knew the team could handle it."
Susquehanna Valley won that game but can't win many without Matt. He says he's willing to do whatever his team needs to win, whether it's playing the low post or standing outside. He's just as well-rounded in the class. That's why Matt Cornwell is this weeks academic All-Star.
