Richmond, VA (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Mets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back in a 5-1 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, on Wednesday night at The Diamond. Brian Burgamy and Dusitn Lawley each hit home runs in the win. Greg Peavey picked up his team-leading ninth win of the season.
For the second straight night, Binghamton jumped on the Richmond starter in the first. Burgamy hit a two-out pitch off of Chris Stratton over the left-field wall to put the B-Mets on the board. Lawley worked a walk and moved to third on a Darrell Ceciliani single. Ceciliani then stole second. The throw from the catcher, Tyler LaTorre went into centerfield, allowing Lawley to score. T.J. Rivera came through with a base knock to plate Ceciliani and give Binghamton a 3-0 lead out of the gate.
Binghamton added to that total in the sixth against Edwin Quirarte. Burgamy worked a two-out walk. Dustin Lawley hammered a pitch over the wall in left field to make the score 5-0.
Richmond finally got on the board in the ninth against Cody Satterwhite. Blake Miller walked and moved to second on a ground out. Myles Schroder managed a pinch-hit single to plate the runner and make the score 5-1.
Peavey (9-2) tossed 6-2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits. Stratton (0-1) lasted just three frames, allowed three runs and walked six batters. Chase Huchingson got the final out of the seventh inning in relief of Peavey, but was ejected after the stanza by home plate umpire, John Libka. Jon Velasquez tossed a scoreless eighth, while Satterwhite allowed one run in the ninth to finish the game.
The B-Mets (69-47) wrap up their series with the Flying Squirrels on Thursday at 7:05 PM. RHP Matt Bowman goes for Binghamton, while LHP Ty Blach takes the hill for Richmond.
