Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Eastern League has named Binghamton Mets starter Greg Peavey as the Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 5th – 15th. Peavey won both his starts with the B-Mets during that span, tossing 10.2 scoreless innings.
Peavey, entering just his second professional season, won his Double-A debut by defeating the Erie SeaWolves on April 9th. The Vancouver, Washington native struck out five and allowed just two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings. On Sunday, he tossed five shutout frames to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs.
Selected in the 6th round of the 2010 draft by the Mets out of Oregon State University, the right-hander made his professional debut with the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) last season. In 14 starts in the South Atlantic League, he went 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He was promoted to the St. Lucie Mets (High-A) in late June and went 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA in 10 starts in the Florida State League.
