Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Interleague play is a big thing for the players in the major leagues, but not necessarily in the minor leagues where the American and National league teams play each other constantly.
But this weekend is big in Binghamton.
Also known as the Subway Series North.
The Binghamton Mets took game 1 of a 3 games series against Trenton, the Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
It's the only time Trenton comes to Binghamton this year.
Even though the teams play each other a few times a year, they say it's still a special thing for them.
And it's fun for the fans.
"I think it's always exciting. The New York rivalry has always been a big rival especially since probably the 2000 series but I guess its a good rivalry. It's New York. It's built up. It's a situation where you have the Mets fans and Yankees fans and they really came out last night," says B-Mets manager and former Met Wally Backman.
Trenton utility man Addison Maruszak says, "It's a good opportunity. It's fun. At the major league level, it's a big rivalry, ya know the Subway series. This is kinda like a 3 and a half hour bus series but it's a lot different but its a lot of fun now."
