BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators downed the Portland Pirates 2-1 on Friday night with netminder Brian Elliott stopping 41 shots to lead the way and push the B-Sens to their 12th win of the season.

The B-Sens penalty kill unit was a perfect 4/4 on the night.

Binghamton scored its first goal towards the end of the first period off a Portland turnover deep in their end. Greg Mauldin fired a wrist shot from the left circle which deflected off of a Portland defenseman and into the net. The marker was Mauldin’s first in 12 games.

The lone Portland goal came in the final thirty seconds of the first period when Matt Ellis deflected a shot coming from the right dot off the stick of Mike Weber.

Hamel notched the game-winning goal, his 29th as a B-Sen, when he fired a slap shot off a pass from Peter Regin during a two-on-one break along the right boards. With his two-point effort (1+1), Hamel is one point shy of 300 as a B-Sen.

Regin notched his second assist on the night, while Mauldin also assisted to give him his first two-point game of 2008-09.
