And rather than be stuck inside, the Binghamton Senators took the opportunity to enjoy the sun today, trading hockey sticks for golf clubs.
It's the team's annual golf outing to benefit the Family Enrichment Network.
Goalie Mike Brodeur says, " I think I'm a golfer but some days I'm not and some days I am. Just depends on what day that is today." Coach Don Nachbaur agrees: " I always enjoy getting out to the golf course, just to get away from the rink, and support the local charities. It's great for the guys and obviously myself."
The Sens team is a mix of scratch golfers and players that needed to borrow clubs for today's 18 holes.
Some time away from the practice rink will be OK for the Sens top line.
Saturday night the combination of Martin St. Pierre, Denis Hamel and Ryan Keller lit up the scoreboard. St. Pierre netted a hat trick as that line combined for 4 goals and 3 assists.
" Hammer's been here a while, and obviously he's a pure goal scorer, and we need to get him the puck a little more, but we're still a little rusty. Just try to get a little speed from our line and that's what we have to use. Coach was mis-matching us against the other team's third line."
" There's a long way to go. I think we can still learn from each other and figure out where people are going to be. When you're playing with Marty and Hammer, you can't really go wrong. They're both so good."
After one game last weekend the Sens step it up this weekend.
They are home Friday and Saturday to face Syracuse and Hershey.
