Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The start of the AHL season is still about a month away, but the excitement is building at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
County employees spent the day putting down the ice and logos and painting the lines for the upcoming season at the Broome County Veterans Memorial arena.
A great sign that hockey is right around the corner.
Players will report to Binghamton for training camp on September 27th.
And because of the lockout in the NHL, you may see some players in Binghamton, both for the Senators as well as their opponents, that you probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.
"I'm thinking of a player like Jared Cowen, Mark Borowiecki and maybe some of the younger players that had an opportunity to step right into the NHL like Mark Stone, somebody like that...Zibanejad, some of these players are going to be here as long as the lockout continues," says executive vice president Tom Mitchell.
The B-Sens hope to announce their roster in the next few days.
Coming up Tuesday night in Action Sports at 6, we'll talk to Mitchell to get his opinion on the NHL lockout and whether or not he thinks it'll hurt hockey at the professional level.
