Albany, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Senators reduced their magic number to clinch a Cup playoff berth to two points Sunday as they earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to Albany.

Following a scoreless first period, defenseman Patrick Coulombe scored his second goal in as many games just 4:27 into the second to put Binghamton on the board 1-0. David Dziurzynski and Derek Smith earned the assists on Coulombe’s third American Hockey League goal of the season, his second as a Binghamton Senator.

Cody Bass added to the B-Sens’ lead in the third period, notching his sixth of the season at the 2:07 mark. The goal came moments after Bass exited the penalty box having served a tripping minor. Colin Green picked up an assist on the Bass goal, while Smith added a helper to earn his second point of the game.

Darcy Zajac gave Albany some life as he scored his fourth goal of the season at 6:25 to pull the Devils within one. Matt Anderson went on to score his 22nd of the season at the 13:54 four mark to tie the game at two and eventually force overtime.

The game progressed to a shootout where Albany’s David Caruso stoned all four Binghamton shooters, while Chad Wiseman and Ryan Ginand each managed to beat Barry Brust to help the Devils earn the extra point.
