Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
The Binghamton Senators are on their way to Charlotte for the start of the 2011 AHL Eastern Conference Finals.
This series will be a little bit different than the first two the Sens played in.
In this week's Action Sports spotlight, Gabe Osterhout looks at the series and tells us how the B-Sens are preparing for a team it knows very well.
"It comes down to execution this time of year."
The Binghamton Senators know the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals will be a battle against the Charlotte Checkers.
After all, the two teams know each other well.
They've played a total of 8 times this season, with the Sens holding a 4-3-0-1 advantage.
Players say the key is to execute on every shift, and try not to do too much.
Ryan Potulny says, "Offensively we have some pretty skilled players and we do it by committee too. We don't do it with one or two guys. We have everyone chipping in and helping out. If one line isn't going, a couple of other lines will step up and get the job done."
After being short handed on the defensive end in the first couple of series, the B-Sens plan to get a little help back.
Eric Gryba is expected to be ready to play in game one.
Peter Wiercioch may not be far behind.
Goalie Robin Lehner says, "I think we saw what we needed to do in our game to get better defensively and I think we blocked a lot of shots and that's what we need to do every game to win this series. it's a really good team we have to play now and we need everyone."
The Sens start the series on the road, and that may not be such a bad thing.
Binghamton is 6-1 on the road in the playoffs.
