Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In order to have a league-best power play, it's likely you'll have one of the league's top performers on the man-up. After Mika Zibanejad got called up to Ottawa, the B-Sens power play has fallen into the hands of guys like Mike Hoffman.
Hoffman currently ranks top ten in the AHL in power play goals, with three so far this season. Last season, his year ended by re-injuring his collarbone after being recalled to Ottawa.
Now, Hoffman is taking the skills that got him to the NHL, and combining them with some veteran knowledge to create a deadly combination.
"Just over the years you get more experience out there and make some more plays and realize what the penalty killers do," said Hoffman. "It's all about experience out there and that's pretty much the biggest thing."
"Behind the Boards" interview with Coach Richardson
"He's a very gifted player that likes to have the puck on his tape," said coach Luke Richardson. "I think to get him to understand, if he can move the puck quick and stay in the structure of our power play and the puck will come back to him, and good things happen. He's done a great job of using everybody on the ice, which makes him more dangerous."
Overall the team is ranked first in the AHL on the power play, scoring 10 goals in 31 chances.
