Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It'll be a different looking Binghamton Senators squad that takes the ice on Saturday night against Utica. Two new faces will suit up for the first time following trades around Wednesday's NHL Trade Deadline.
Alex Grant, who comes to Binghamton from Norfolk, was on the ice Friday morning for his first practice with the team. He's no stranger to the B-Sens, as he played parts of the last three years for the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Meanwhile, fellow defenseman Patrick Mullen, who was traded from Utica, practiced for his second time with the B-Sens on Friday morning.
Both are interested in bringing some stability at the back of the B-Sens defense, and said they hope they can push this team towards a Calder Cup run.
"I've played two years in the league now, so a little bit of a veteran presence," said Grant. "I just want to be steady on the back end and contribute offensively as well."
"I think it's just keep it simple," said Mullen. "I mean this team is already so good as it is, and if I can just come in and help out anyway I can. It's just going to make it easier for everyone."
For Mullen, Saturday night is a reunion of sorts. He'll suit up for his first game with the B-Sens, and it comes against his former team, Utica. He admitted it'll be weird, but said once they get on the ice, it'll be a normal game.
Binghamton hosts the Comets on Saturday at the Arena at 7:05 p.m.
