Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

It may have cooled off outside, but it will be red hot in the Arena again tonight.
A packed house is expected again for tonight Calder Cup Final game 4, which adds to a problem.
How do you keep up good ice in June?

It takes more than an air conditioner to keep the ice rink from melting.
In this hot weather, it has become a challenge to keep the ice set at 14 degrees without being slushy. Workers in the arena have been told to keep all of the doors closed in an attempt to keep the warm air out of the building, and some additional equipment has been brought in .

"We have a specific piece of equipment, the ticogen, that is strictly maintaining the 62 degree air in the seating area, and then an electric compressor that is running the ice, and we have two additional compressors that as needed they will kick on through games based on the temperatures as they increase once the 4700 or 4900 people get in the building."

The Zambonis run a few times during game day, with one more pass coming up any second here.
