Ottawa, ONT (WBNG Binghamton) The Ottawa Senators lead their best of seven series 2-1, and Sunday's win was due in large part to the play of a B-Sen alumnus.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a hat trick in the Senators 6-1 win over Montreal. Pager, as he is known, played 69 games in Binghamton before getting the call-up in the last month of the season.
Now, he's the Ottawa Senators leading goal scorer in the playoffs. Not bad for a guy who almost didn't have a spot, even at the AHL level.
"We had so many numbers because of the lockout year," said B-Sens Coach Luke Richardson. "They struggled on whether or not they should keep him or send him back to overage in juniors and we really liked him in training camp and exhibition games and we wanted to keep him and we pushed for that and I think it turned out, everybody sees it was the right decision so for me, that was, not the biggest surprise but the best decision."
Another B-Sen alum, Jakob Silfverberg is second on the team with two playoff goals. Game four of the series is Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Ottawa.
