Bearcat Brief 1-29

By Justin Horowitz

While the BU defense broke down in blowing a 17-point lead to UMBC, the offense continued to shine.

The Bearcats set a school-record with 15 three-pointers.

D.J. Rivera led the team in scoring for the 19th time in 20 games.

But Tiki Mayben added a career-high 20 and Brandon Herbert had 12, showing BU is far from a one-man show.

"Teams knowing that I average a lot of points, they try to stop me mostly and then I got good teammates that are good on offense too and that helps me out a lot and helps the team out a lot too," says Rivera.

The Bearcat Women improved to 3 and 3 in America East Wednesday night with a 76-59 win over UNH.

BU is perfect at home, winless on the road.

The Bearcats can win their first conference road game Saturday at last-place Maine.

"Every win is a crucial win so we never look too far ahead," says head coach Nikki Scholl. "We always look to the next game. This was a big win for us especially on our home floor."

While freshman Andrea Holmes flirted with a triple-double against UNH, fellow freshman Viive Rebane had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The native of Estonia has started all 18 games and is third on the team in scoring and rebounding.

"It's been really fun," says Rebane. "At first, it wasn't easy. It was something new and I'm loving it right now. Loving it."

And that's this week's Bearcat Brief.
