Bearcat Brief 10-1

VESTAL - Another home game, another win for the volleyball team Wednesday night.

The Bearcats swept Siena in three sets to move to 4 and 0 at the West Gym.

Anna Lejina led the attack with 15 kills, Michelle McDonough added 14.

Conference play begins Friday night at New Hampshire.

Men's Soccer saw its three-game winning streak end Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss at Bucknell.

But lately, the Bearcat offense has excelled...

Two goals in a win at Cornell followed by a four-goal outburst Sunday against Niagara, the most goals scored since 2007.

Mix that with the lock-down defense led by CV-grad Jason Stenta, and the Bearcats have their recipe for winning.

"You never want to sit back and sit on a lead," says senior and leading scorer Kyle Kucharski. "We're notorious for having 1-0 grind out wins as long as I've been here and before that so any game that we can get a little bit of a cushion we're happy with."

The last time the Bearcats scored two goals in a game and lost was 2004.

Next up, Saturday night's homecoming tilt against Rhode Island.

"We do anticipate a huge crowd," says head coach Paul Marco. "I know we've got a few alumni coming in for it. I think there's 14 or 15 alumni coming in definitely to play in the alumni game and maybe we'll have a few more."

The baseball team is still months away from its regular season.

But earlier this week, professional scouts from eight Major League teams were on campus for the program's annual scout day.

Vestal-grad Corey Taylor and senior Henry Dunn look to have the best chance of hearing their names called in next June's amateur draft.

In the past four years, 12 Bearcats have signed professional baseball contracts.

And that's this week's Bearcat Brief.
