Junior Jason Chen picked up a pair of wins while Sophomore Nick Turner captured the three-meter board in the Bearcat's season opening meet at the WNY Invitational.
The wins garnered recognition as the first America East Swimmer and Diver of the week.
With a lot more news on campus, here's this week's Bearcat Brief.
-
Amid a growing controversy surrounding the men's basketball program, head coach Kevin Broadus was put on a paid leave of absence. The school named Mark Macon the interim head coach.
This past week Broadus admitted to committing an NCAA recruiting violation.
That came after one of his players was arrested and 5 others were kicked off the team.
The basketball season begins Friday night with late-night madness at the Events Center beginning at 10:00.
At that time Macon will address the media along with new interim athletic director Jim Norris.
-
Binghamton women's soccer freshman midfielder Emily Pape was been named the America East Rookie of the Week.
Pape scored two game-winners to keep the surging Bearcats red-hot. She tallied the lone goal in 1-0 victories over Hartford and Maine.
The Bearcats dropped their next game, losing 3-0 in a non-conference game at Penn.
-
Junior hitter Anna Lejina posted 16 kills to lead Binghamton to a 3-0 win over Hartford on Sunday afternoon.
Lejia had five kills in each of the first two sets before putting down six in the decisive final third set to give BU the victory over the Hawks.
The Bearcats are 2-0 in conference play.
-
And after winning their conference opener, the men's soccer team dropped a road match at Stony Brook by a 1-0 final.
It was the Sea Wolves first win over Binghamton since 2001.
And that's this week's Bearcat Brief.
