BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The B-Sens attempted a late comeback, but could not overcome three first-period goals by the Albany River Rats as they fell 4-2 Wednesday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With the loss, Binghamton’s five-game point streak ended.

Albany scored all three goals before the eight minute mark in the first period with Michael Ryan tallying the first goal less than two minutes in.

Nick Dodge scored the next two goals within a minute and a half of each other making the game 3-0. Dodge deflected a Brett Carson slap shot past netminder Martin Gerber for his first marker. Dodge then took a cross-crease pass from Ryan and snapped it under the crossbar to give the River Rats the three-goal advantage.

The B-Sens finally got on the board late in the second period. Derek Couture took a shot right in front of the net to the netminder’s right and the rebound kicked out to Marc Cavosie who put the puck in a wide open net. The goal was Cavosie’s sixth. Couture picked up his third assist and Zack Smith also picked up his 18th assist on the play.

Binghamton continued its new found momentum into the third period when Denis Hamel scored his 15th goal of the season during 4-on-4 hockey bringing the deficit to one. Hamel fired a wrister over the netminder’s left shoulder off of the pass from Mattias Karlsson. The assist by Karlsson extended his points streak to four games (0-5) and was his 26th of the season. Drew Fata also picked up a secondary assist, his seventh of the season.

The comeback was cut short, however, when the River Rats scored on a two-on-one break late in the third period when Pat Dwyer fired a shot from the left faceoff circle over Gerber’s glove to make it a 4-2 final.
